THIS IS WHERE THE MONTHLY RESULTS ARE POSTED.
WHATEVER YOU MANAGED TO ACHIEVE THIS MONTH, REMEMBER IT IS THE RIDE YOU HAD THAT REALLY COUNTS! – THEN WE CAN ALL BE WINNERS!
The final numbers
Friends, we have made it. The final numbers can be found here. Brilliantly ridden, everyone! I think a special mention should be make of the Canadian Maples. For the first time ever, a North American team made it to within spitting distance of the European destination. You rock! Thank you all for your wonderful support and contributions to make this the best virtual and real community I know. The ride is done - let's Head to Hella!!!
Totals for June
Wow! We are nearly there and most of us would have made it, or will still make it to Herning - and then we changed course - sod's law!!! However brilliant results for everyone, see here, and I guess more km for June will still come in. We are on the final straight now, the ride ends on Aug 2nd. Until then, stay healthy, and keep on tölting.
Totals for May
So, that was a very short party: with 40,584 km in the bag, we have completed the equator, and more. See results here - We need a new challenge. Herning is about 6000km north of the equator, even that, I think might be a too "short". Your suggestions? Either way, since we are all in the northern hemisphere, it is safe to say have a wonderful summer, and lots of happy times in the saddle.
Totals for April
A lot has happened since last month, but we are still going, and you find the totals for April here. But sadly the World Championships in Herning have been cancelled - so we are redirecting our effort to circling the globe, all 40,0075 kms of it. To date we are sitting on 35,797, so that is a realistic target. From the equator, we might still want to turn to Herning, or ride home, just for the fun of it. We will work that out later. In the meantime happy tölting as spring is springing.
March Total
Wheeee - another month gone by and you can read about the total ridden km here. Well done! This will be the first year that most if not all teams will easily make it to or destination, Herning. It is as though we are trying to magic the pandemic away, and the World Championships to be fully on. Well, what else can we do!? Happy riding as the days go longer (if not particularly warmer).
February totals
Another month closer to spring, sunshine, happy riders, and the freedom to roam... Whoa! Stop! Day-dreaming again, and - having nowhere to ride without taking the trailer - I for one, have not ridden out at all. Or is taking horse and trailer out a "necessary journey" after all? Who knows? However, in spite of everything, many participants managed very good distances, and collectively we are closer to Herning this year than we were last time in February. Just look at the figures - here! Pay particular attention to the Team totals. Even Canada only has another 3000km to go - and we are more than able to help. - Right! Back to my day-dreaming. Our first camp ride will be in...
January Roundup
Ahhhh - that was a good roll! Don't they love this sort of white, clean, dry and refreshing snow!?! January is behind us, and with that we can look forward to longer days, better weather, and eventually more freedom to ride out again. You can find the totals for January here. Some of us managed quite a lot of miles (riders who covered more than 100km are celebrated in red), but then again, I for one did not get in the saddle at all - mostly due to Covid restrictions again. It is what it is, and the horses don't mind. From here, it should only get better.
Totals for December
Happy New Year to all riders, horses and the home"support crew", who are always there and rarely get the thanks they deserve. Most of us are facing another "brave new world". Or is it facing a new world bravely? Either way, the ride continues, and so do the seasons. Let's look forward to the longer days... The totals for December can be seen here.
Totals for November
Another month gone by, nothing has changed in the world, and yet everything is on the move - and so are we. To be precise we rode a total of 3672 km during November, which - all things considered - is a huge achievement! Time to prepare for Chrismas and hopefully many happy hours in the saddle. Make it a merry one!!!
Totals for October
And another month gone by. Let's talk numbers! So far, we have over 2500 "excess" kilometres, these will be used to take everyone along to Herning. To date, our "front-runner" with a distance of 545km since August is njmdb, member of the 'Orange Army', and unsurprisingly, it is also the team 'Orange Army', who have achieved the best team kilometres (1747km). Congratulations!!! Want to know more? Here are the numbers for October 2020.
Totals for September 2020
5166 km ridden during September - that is one of the highest monthly returns we ever had, and a great sign that - pandemic, or not - the horses are cheerful, and riders are happy to get into the saddle again! See the September totals here. Under the team totals you will see an extra entry for the "spare kms" we are now recording, these are team km of groups that have already reached Herning, and they will go to support friends further across the oceans. Together, we can bring everyone to Herning.
Welcome to the 9th FEIF Virtual Ride
We got off to a GREAT start, and together have covered over 3000km already since we started counting on 9th August. You can see the results here. If your name is not on the list - you have not yet registered! If your expected team mates are not on the list - they have not registered. If your ridden km for August are not on the list - you did not send them in... But not to worry, nothing is lost! Just send in your missing details, and they will be included in the September returns.
And then there is the story of 2 teams having arrived in Herning already. So they need a challenge! You friends from the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, here is your chance. Pls pipe up on the Facebook page, the team members of Team Arnaborg, and the Orange Army invite you to join them, and thus we will swallow up the km together. So far so brilliant. Bring on the September results!!!

And then it all ended...
Unfortunately, the pandemic has stopped (albeit temporarily) most horse activity across FEIF member countries - and then Landsmót itself was cancelled in May 2020. These events put a stop to the virtual ride - however, real time riding continues as - step by step - horses and riders all re-emerge from that Corona shadow. The next ride "Returning to Herning" will start on 9th August 2021.
Totals for February
Since we started in August, the FEIF Virtual riders have now covered 23.510km - this is more than half way round the equator! In these days of coronavirus, a lot of things seem to switch to “virtual”. At my University we are introducing virtual lectures, and meetings via skype, virtual open days, which happen mainly online, and the new “take-away exams”... - but let’s not go there. This strategy, which now seems to be on everyone’s mind, was already adopted 7 years ago by FEIF for one particular purpose, namely to make it possible for everyone to ride to the World Championships, and Landsmót. So well done all, we are the trendsetters, we are! - Results for February are here!
Totals for January 2020
Another month - and 'suddenly' we are halfway through our journey. Luckily the brighter season might also provide more opportunity to ride. My team for one, needs more time in the saddle to make it to Hella for July! This month I published the full set of information I have, to give us all a good overview. It is still not too late to form a team - or to join a team - to speed up progress. Just fill out the team form and the ridden km of all team members will be added together. And talking about teams: congratulations to the Wildwooders, and the Hacksters who have arrived in Hella! Splendid achievement. Upward and onward happy riding!
Totals for December
Happy New Year to you all. When it comes to riding, for many of us December was not the dream time for riding, bad weather, busy preparations and then there are the fires. Nevertheless, good results! (Here...) The first team has arrived - congratulations! (And forget the calculations from last month - entirely my mistake!!!) Here is to a wonderful riding year for us all. Good health and happiness for 2020.
Totals for November
After a short delay, the November totals are here. Be proud of what you and your horses achieved! The weather is not playing ball - and Iceland has just been hit particularly hard. On the other hand these pictures of joyful little horses, happy to be released into the snow... it does something to the soul, doesn't it? - In that spirit, a wonderful advent time and Christmas celebrations when they come! As to the New Year... it seems a bit early. We will greet it in a little later.
Totals for October
For most of us it is autumn, wet, getting colder - and the ongoing questions whether to clip the horses? Or let the winter coat grow? How best to dry off sweat? Do less, because they get too hot? But it will get colder (and hopefully a bit drier). In spite of that, the ride is going really well. The top individual achievements are well into 600km since we started, and the Hacksters, a 3-rider team from Shetland, only have another 282km to go to reach Hella - so they will be there well before Christmas! See for yourself. Well done everyone!
And did you hear that Carole from the same team also won the Íshestar photo competition with this wonderful picture? More info here: https://www.facebook.com/islandshestar/photos/a.2095837523841483/2572410889517475/

Totals for September
We are doing great! You find the totals for September here. Please note that I only included riders who have sent in their ridden distances either in Aug or for September. - Overall we now have 115 registered riders. Another thing which delights me even more is that riders continue to visit each other, even across international borders. What a wonderful step to take, from virtual ride to laughing, tölting and eating / drinking together, all activities that need to be real to be shared fully. Brilliant! Riding is fun - riding together is more fun!
Totals for August
Wow - what a start: 90 riders, 17 teams, and a total of 2515 km (and that is only from those who remembered to send them in!) Fabulous! You find the details here. And the facebook page too shows that we are truly global: most of us are preparing for autumn, but some are enjoying a wonderful spring time. If you have not registered yet, what is stopping? if you have any questions, send them to [email protected]. Note there is also a FAQ section here.
Hello Hella, here we come
HELLO HELLA is the name of the FEIF virtual ride to Hella, Iceland, home to Landsmót, the most important competition of the Icelandic horse in Iceland, 6th-12th July 2020. Riders start from home - wherever that is - and ride in the direction of Hella to be part of the biggest festival of the Icelandic horse in 2020. This is the 8th year of the virtual ride. Let's make it one to remember!
Here endeth the ride Back to Berlin, 2019
The end or a ride is the beginning of the ride. On the way to Berlin, we covered 46,844 km between us! That is pretty wow!!! We also had a lovely little party, when some of us met in Berlin. At that occasion, we also received a warm invitation to come to Hella for next year's Landmót, so off we go again. But first - here are the final kms and team distances for Berlin.
Totals for May
The season is hotting up, and together we rode nearly 3400 km in May. You find the totals here. Two more months to go until Berlin. The end is almost in sight.
Wishing you all lots of happy times in the saddle!
Wishing you all lots of happy times in the saddle!
Totals for March and April
The total km submitted for April, 3145km have gone up by almost 800km compared to March - so the weather must be better, and spring is truly springing here in the the northern hemisphere. As preparations in Berlin are underway, so are we! You find the new totals here. Make the most of the fine weather (in most places) - not so long now...
Totals for February
Hurrah - and in time! You find the totals for February here. This time the list is sorted by the most km individual riders have achieved so far. Congratulations to Elaine (again!) There is no doubt that our top 10 or so - who have ridden over 900 km since July - are consistent, and incredible horse people by any standard!!! And the rest of us? I for one are very proud to keep such exceptional company! For most of us, winter is losing its grip as surely as the horses are losing their hair. That can only mean one thing: more happy hours in the saddle.

Totals for Jan 2019
No, not a picture from the group - but is it not glorious? No not the right season for all of us - but is it not glorious? I just could not resist! You find the totals for Jan here. We have a few new riders - and a particular welcome to Romania. You will see that half of the teams have arrived. But there is plenty of scope to keep riding: Together we still have to tackle a some 20.000 km. However we already have covered 22.000 - and for most of us the days are getting longer... Happy hacking.
All results for 2018
A very Happy New y Year! - I can't believe I did not do Sept and Oct - so sorry that you had to wait until now... But here they are - all submitted km so far on the ride Back to Berlin. The table is sorted by individual achievements, and as you can see, the first 10 have already reached our goal. But keep on riding. Together we want "the new world" to join us too. The teams are doing great as well! Remember you can submit the km for any missing months at any time.

Dear All, we are here (wherever that is) and Landsmót is fully under way. Thank you for participating, for the fun we all had at home and the adventures shared on facebook. The final results are here. And a copy for those of us who enjoy playing with a spreadsheet.
Preparations for the World Championships in Berlin are well on the way, our ride Back to Berlin will continue on Mon July 9th (details to follow). In the meantime - a massive hurrah! to the Icelandic horse. Can you remember a life without them? I can't!!! All the best, Gundula.

Here are the preliminary results before the ride comes to an end on July 3rd. Well done everyone, who participated. It is not too late to send in any missing km, and of course we want you to keep counting until the very end. Not quite time for that cake, yet - happy tölting!!!
Totals for April
From the total for April you will see that the first team, the Toon Army, has arrived in Reykjavík. Congratulations!!!! Living 'relatively' near Iceland, with only 1700 kms to go, they are also top of the league as this is the team that has ridden the most kms! Maybe it is those short nights...!?! A good number of teams are still in with a very good chance of making it in time for Landsmót. And for the rest of us - we will perform the number magic again! Together we have already covered 26,784 km - more than half way around the globe. Iceland is entirely within our reach! Enjoy the good weather (at least up here in Scotland it is glorious) and keep on tölting.
Totals for ----- WHAT??? 2018
Dear All, I have just realised just how slack I have been: no updates since December? You find the 2018 results here.
How could this have happened. I am sooooo very sorry. However, we are where we are, and for most of us the winter meant a sort of mental and physical hibernation. I did not even realize that I've been asleep all this time. All the more reason for an energetic up and go into spring and summer. Happy tölting all over the globe!

Totals for October 2017
In time, for once! And here are the totals for October. And it's getting dark in Europe. There is plenty of time to catch up: It is time to encourage some friends to join. we are currently 93 riders. Can we make that 100? There is time to update your km, to register a new team, to sort out your own registration. - you can send in the online forms any time you like. All changes will get published at the beginning of December.

Totals for September
For some of us the trees turn red and golden and the days are getting shorter. For others grass will be turning green, and the days are getting longer. Either way, together we covered a handsome 2500 km in September. The totals are here. Keep on going - it's a long, long way to Tipperary, oops, no! It's a long, long way to Reykjavik!
Ride toReykjavík - totals for August 2017
What a start! We now have 82 registered riders from 10 countries who have - together - already covered 2345km. You find the details here. Or here (pdf). If you think your team is smaller than you thought, that is because some of your team members have not registered as an individual. If you have sent in your ridden km, and cannot find your name on the list, that is because some of your team members have not registered as an individual. Yes, you got it, it is essential that riders register. After that it is easy to add "forgotten" km, forming new teams, and adjusting registration details.
Happy riding (whatever the company you keep)! |
And we are off again...
As was expected by everyone, the World Championships in Oirshot were amazing! The horses, the people, the food, and yes, the shopping. We also had an opportunity to meet up with quite a number of us "virtuals" and thank you Monique and Roos, who made (!) a lovely present for everyone there.
All good things come to an end, and this end is just the beginning! Please register anew for this year's "Ride to Reykjavík" - and why not bring a friend along as well? There is plenty of (virtual) space for everyone. We are not competing with one another!
Here is to lots of fun for the year to come! Happy tölting.

Totals for July and only 3 days to go!!!
The totals for July are here. And hurrah! We ALL made it. The extra km ridden by those team members who had arrived earlier, exceed those km still needed by over 2,000km. And adding up the whole of the distance we rode together we get to an amazing 194,100km. Unimaginable achievement, this. - And all along that little horse, faithfully carrying us across the world (several times over) and home again. Words cannot quite capture it all, can they?
Thanks to everyone who participated, and for all the lovely contributions on the fb page. What fun we had together!

Totals for April and May
|
Here are the new totals for April and May. Finally the days are getting longer, the weather better, and the winter coats are dropping off. Two more months to go - just enjoy! Skál!
|

Don't worry if you have forgotten to submit your March distance. Just do it now - and we will add it in early May.
Enjoy the spring, or if it is autumn, enjoy the milder temperatures! Happy tölting.

Totals for Jan 2017
- The winter has been strange for most of us: masses of snow and ice in some places, none at all - but a lot of rain in others. - And then of course some of us are looking towards the end of summer... Nevertheless, together we rode over 2000km in January, and what is more - our "spare km" are mounting up. We with over 8000 already, Australia and New Zealand will make it to the World Championships as well. For all the latest numbers look here.
Totals for December
Happy new year to humans and horses alike. Here you will find the new totals for December. Some of you were a bit caught out by the end of the month? The end of the year? Never mind, we will add your Dec and Jan km next month. Many teams have arrived already - the Piggy Pacers are nearly round the globe one more, and the Wild Wooders only have 3 km more to go. But just keep on riding. The wider Icey community needs us!

Totals for September
Bigger, faster, stronger: we have grown from 84 riders to 103 and two more teams have arrived at Oirschot. See the totals for September here! I get the feeling the southern hemisphere will get a lot of support very soon - as our days get colder and shorter, yours will be warmer and longer, all in all very attractive. – If you are riding with a hand horse (or two), remember each one will count for half the distance again.
Totals for August 2016
August has brought good results. Nice weather for most of us, most of the time, and the last glow of summer glory (at least here in the northern regions...) Since the distance to Oirschot does not provide a real challenge for many of us, let's make international collaboration the real focus. Use the fb site to make contact with riders outside Europe and form new teams! Then register these using the online form. Happy riding, and happy teaming up!
Totals for July 2016
This ride has got off with unbelievable energy. Within a month of starting we are 75 riders and have already covered over 5000km. The teams Piggy Pacers and On horseback with friends, have already arrived in Oirschott - a year early - and vastly overshot the target. With the aim of making the world a smaller place, it is time that we create some more international teams.
Here are the results for July. Let's make the summer last, and happy riding for August.

The end of the ride is the beginning of the ride. Icelandic horse riders from all over the globe - come and join in the virtual FEIF ride Oirschott, NL, home of the next World Championships for the Icelandic horse in 2017. It will be an amazing event, and here is a little taster.

We are on the final straight now - the ride will finish at 20:00 on Thu, 30th June, at the same time as the Opening Ceremony of Landsmót.
Here are a few statistical highlights: together we have ridden 65,528 km, that is one and half time around the globe! We have over 14,000km km spare, and by the end of June we will easily reach 17,000km spare - which means all our friends down under can hitch a very comfortable ride! The top achievement for a single rider A.S.S.A is 2818km so far! Incredible achievement, and more to come. And Bente, from DK, managed to get from home to exactly within 1 km by the end of this month. Precision work! For more fun with numbers, look here: totals_may_2016_.htm Congratulations to everyone.

Not so long to go now, and the weather is getting better - and better. All in all, 8 teams have arrived in Hólar, and Halfkey Ice Team is only 10 km from our destination. Congratulations all! Together we have also ridden almost 10,000km km "spare". And as this distance will continue to grow, we are almost sure that with a little help of friends, AU and NZ will also make it to Iceland.

Totals for March 2016
Yep, at least for some of us, March has been a bit wet... but that did not stop the fact that month after month together we are totalling more and more km - be that because spring is waking us up from our winter nap, or - down under - summer gives way to autumn freshness. You find the totals for March here.
Totals for February 2016
Total for February here. This time the team totals are included and you will see that several teams have already arrived. But I guess the horses love the cold, crisp snow! |

Congratulations to Gwenny from DK who managed to cover 355 km in the saddle. When it comes to the teams, the Piggy-Pacers are unbeatable: with 1667km in just 2 months, they will sure be very popular with New Zealand and Australia, who might be grateful for some extra support!
Totals for August 2015
The ride to Holar got off to a flying start. We already have 105 riders from 15 countries. Most riders are part of the team, with colourful names ranging from angelic (Southern Belles, Geordie Girls, Nice n Icey) to hellish (Hjaltland Harpies, Hell's Iceys Pony Club). It's good to be on the road again, making the most of the end of summer, or be end of winter as these riders in NZ. To see the total for August, click here.
